Haryana: Farmers, police intercept three tractor-trolleys carrying Uttar Pradesh wheat

By Shiv Kumar Sharma

In a joint action by farmers and local police, three tractor-trolleys loaded with wheat allegedly brought from Uttar Pradesh were intercepted near Kapal Mochan-Ranjeet Pur road near Aherwala village, falling under Vyaspur sub-division of Yamunanagar district.

The said wheat was reportedly to be sold in some grain markets of the district. The tractor-trolleys were taken into custody by the police to initiate further legal proceedings.

Farmers have urged the district administration to take strict measures to regulate the entry of wheat from other states and ensure protection of interests of local growers, emphasising that Yamunanagar district is situated on the border of Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

They said the inter-state border allowed easy transportation of agricultural produce from neighboring states, affecting the interests of local producers.

“Due to such practices, local farmers will have to struggle to sell their produce in grain markets. District administration should take strict measures to regulate the entry of wheat from other states,” said a farmer.

Vinod Saini, SHO of Vyaspur police station said they had taken the tractor-trolleys into custody.

“We have informed the authorities of the Market Committee about this consignment of wheat and to take action in connection with this case,” said SHO Vinod Saini.

On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner Preeti said the arrival of wheat in the grain markets of the district was gradually increasing.

She said during the current Rabi season, as many as 90,854.07 MT of wheat had arrived in grain markets of the district till March 13 and a total of 63,594 MT of wheat had been purchased by the procurement agencies.

“The procurement of wheat is going on smoothly in grain markets of the district,” added Deputy Commissioner Preeti.
