AP govt aims to mobilise Rs 10 lakh crore in green energy investments by 2029: Chief secretary

Andhra Pradesh govt, under the leadership of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is determined to deliver 24×7 power supply of global standards to attract substantial investments into the state, said chief secretary K Vijayanand. He said that under the Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024, the AP govt aims to mobilise Rs 10 lakh crore in green energy investments by 2029. He made these remarks during an interaction with BEE media adviser (southern states) and adviser (government affairs & media) of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).

“The newly established Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition (CoEET) at Vizag will be a game-changer in promoting applied research, skill development, and clean energy entrepreneurship. Andhra Pradesh has long been a frontrunner in implementing key energy efficiency programmes in partnership with the Union govt and EESL. The state, through the new and renewable energy development corporation of Andhra Pradesh, has signed an agreement with NTPC Green Energy Limited to establish a state-of-the-art green hydrogen hub near Visakhapatnam. The project, with a proposed investment of Rs 1.85 lakh crore, will contribute significantly to achieving India’s 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity target by 2030,” the chief secretary added.

Commending Andhra Pradesh’s initiative, Milind Deore, secretary, BEE, said that the establishment of the CoEET at Visakhapatnam is a commendable initiative that aligns perfectly with India’s national energy efficiency and clean energy transition goals. “The multi-stakeholder governance model, focus on R&D, skill development, and entrepreneurship support are well-conceived at the CoEET. With robust financial planning and national visibility, CoEET has the potential to emerge as a leading hub for clean energy innovation and knowledge,” said Deore.

He further suggested integrating CoEET’s activities with BEE’s national programmes to enhance its reach through strong stakeholder participation. Deore also appreciated APEPDCL CMD Prudhvitej Immadi for leading more than 20 applied research and pilot projects and for training over 1,000 professionals and utility engineers in energy efficiency practices.
