Days after an FIR was registered against a rice miller and show-cause notices were issued to two officials following a shortage of paddy detected in a rice mill, the District Food and Supplies Controller (DFSC) Kurukshetra has recommended departmental actions against the two officials.

As per the information, during physical verifications of Chaudhary Rice Mill, Pehowa, over 33,122 quintals of paddy was found missing.

DFSC Kurukshetra Naresh Kumar, in his recommendation to the headquarters, has stated that it came to light that the Assistant Food and Supply Officer and Inspector, Pehowa, had not sent the fortnightly physical inspection report of the rice mills of Pehowa. Taking cognizance, the CMR deliveries of the rice millers at Pehowa Centre were inspected. Upon inspection, it was found that only 7 per cent of the CMR deliveries to the Food Corporation of India were made by Chaudhary Rice Mill.

Based on the report, a joint investigation team consisting of AFSO Shahabad and Inspector Shahabad was constituted to conduct a physical inspection of the paddy available at Chaudhary Rice Mill. The investigation team’s physical inspection report revealed that over 24,318 quintals of paddy was missing from the rice mill. Following the report, an FIR was registered.

Another physical inspection of the rice mill was conducted by the already constituted team. During the second inspection, 33,122 quintals of paddy was found missing in the rice mill, and there was, a difference of over 8,803 quintals of paddy in the first physical inspection and the second physical inspection.

Regarding the discrepancy found in the physical inspection of the stock available, show-cause notices were issued to Jasbir Singh, Assistant Food and Supply Officer, Pehowa and Rinku Jangra, Inspector Food and Supply, Pehowa.

The official found the response to the show-cause notice unsatisfactory, and recommended action against them.
