Haryana: Two officers suspended in Yamunanagar paddy embezzlement case

The Director General of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has suspended an Assistant Food and Civil Supplies Officer (AFSO) and an Inspector of the department in connection with an alleged paddy embezzlement case detected at several rice mills in Yamunanagar district.

The suspension orders of AFSO Devinder Kumar and Inspector Vinod Kumar were issued by Anshaj Singh, Director General of the department.

Earlier, the Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED) had suspended four of its officials — a senior manager, two field inspectors and a technical officer — on December 9 in connection with the same case.

Jatin Mittal, District Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Controller, Yamunanagar, said Director General Anshaj Singh had ordered the suspension of Devinder Kumar and Vinod Kumar for alleged negligence in the discharge of their duties during the paddy procurement process.

He said during the suspension period, the head office or reporting place of the two officials had been fixed at the office of the District Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Controller, Kaithal.

According to official information, the District Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Yamunanagar, along with HAFED, got three FIRs registered on different dates in November 2025 against rice miller Sandeep Singla and his wife after short stock of allotted paddy was detected in their seven rice mills located in the district.

On the directions of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the case. The SIT has already arrested Sandeep Singla, the owner of the rice mills, allegedly for embezzling paddy allotted to his mills by government agencies.

As per the records of the District Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Controller, Yamunanagar, a total of 6,75,384 metric tonnes (MT) of paddy was procured from all 13 grain markets in the district till November 15, the last day of paddy procurement this year.

In comparison, 6,09,166 MT of paddy had been procured from the district’s grain markets during the corresponding period last year.
