Japan to set up green hydrogen production centre in UP
In a move that will provide a major push to the state govt’s initiatives to boost production and use of renewable energy, Japanese entrepreneurs have announced they will set up a Centre of Excellence for green hydrogen in Uttar Pradesh.
The discussion was initiated by a high-level delegation of the UP govt, which was in Japan recently.
“The delegation held discussions on cutting-edge technologies, including the next-generation hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the Toyota Mirai, which runs by combining hydrogen and oxygen, emitting only water as a byproduct. This aligns perfectly with UP’s vision for a zero-emission transport policy,” a govt spokesperson said.

The team also held discussions with govt representatives and private entrepreneurs on potential collaborations to promote green hydrogen production and energy innovation.
A senior official said: “Partnerships with global institutions were necessary to boost renewable energy generation in the state, especially through solar, hydro, and biomass-based power solutions.” The delegation visited several facilities in Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture, including the NESRAD Green Hydrogen Plant, the Suntory Hakushu Distillery, which is home to a power-to-gas technology plant and a Hydrogen Research Centre.
