Telangana: Farmers demand government to procure rain-hit paddy
Farmers in Sirgapur village of Dilawarpur mandal staged a sit-in on the road on Wednesday, demanding that the government procure paddy grains damaged by unseasonal rains.
The agitating farmers said the wet paddy grains were being rejected at government-run procurement centres, leaving them to suffer heavy losses despite investing significantly in paddy cultivation. They urged the government to intervene and ensure the procurement of the damaged crop to protect their livelihood.
The protest disrupted traffic on the Nirmal–Bhainsa road for some time, causing inconvenience to motorists. The farmers, however, withdrew their protest after police advised them to take up the issue with civil supplies officials.
