Kundapur (Karnataka): Raid uncovers 540 kg rice hoarded meant for Anna Bhagya Scheme

Tahsildar and personnel from the food and civil supplies department conducted a raid on Deva Rice Industries in Shiriyara village on Sunday, seizing 540 kg of rice intended for distribution to BPL cardholders under the Anna Bhagya scheme.

The raid was prompted by a specific tip-off received by deputy food ionspector Jayamadhava of Udupi, along with tahsildar Srikant Hegde from Brahmavar and sub-inspector Tejaswi from Kota police station. They were accompanied by food inspectors Shivaraj, Suresh, and Leelananda. A case has been registered against the owner of the rice mill.

During the raid, Kota revenue inspector Manjunatha filed a complaint of obstruction of duty. It was alleged that a local resident named Prabhakar attempted to snatch the phone from Manjunatha when he tried to take a photo via GPS.

In response, Prabhakar stated, “The rice mill belongs to my relative. When I arrived at the scene upon hearing about the raid, officials assaulted me and lodged a false complaint against me. I have filed a counter-complaint with the police and intend to pursue legal action.”
